I think it's my turn to post now :P

First of all, I mentioned making an icon for the community, which I...completely forgot about ^^; but I did make a Yami no Matsuei icon the other day that we could use. It's here if Me-chan wants to stick it up there. I dunno. @_@ Anyway.

Second, I thought I'd post my latest ficcy here rather than in my writing journal because that thing is just about dead to begin with, and the people in this community watch/are informed about Spiral. Which is the anime this fanfic is derived from.

Notes

x An onigiri is more commonly known as a "rice ball" to English-speaking people.
x Ryoko's favorite food is beyond me, but I made a guess that it was onigiri. I'll probably be proved wrong, but hey. I tried. x.x;
x Asazuki and Ryoko have a past together that hasn't been made clear in the series yet, but what is clear as of episode 19 is that they have a slight love-hate relationship that will probably end up being all love in the end. :D (Then again, I'm an optimist, and my guesses about pairings could always end up being wrong.)
x Ryoko calls Asazuki "Kousuke-kun" almost all the time. She'll call him Asazuki only if she's really serious about something.

Okay, I think that's it. Sooo on with the fic! o.o Read if you want to, comment if you want to, whatever. Enjoy~

Midnight Onigiri
A Spiral ~Suiri no Kizuna~ fanfiction

"I hate the dark."

"Shut up and keep walking."

"Kousuke-kun! Where are you taking me?"

The redhead gave a loud sigh of annoyance. "Somewhere, Ryoko. Just...somewhere."

"I told you already that I didn't like the sound of that."

"I know what you told me! Now shut up and-"

There was an audible 'thunk' as Asazuki ran straight into a tree. Ryoko stopped beside him, smirking. "Perhaps you should watch where you're going, ne?"

"Rrgh..." He reached up and adjusted his glasses, not bothering to move any more than that. "You try walking through a forest at night without running into anything."

"What do you think I'm doing right now?" The brunette shook her head, sighing. "Clumsy. Now give me your hand and I'll help you up."

Asazuki pouted, his face taking on a comically childish expression. "I don't need your help. I can get up on my own."

Ryoko shrugged and folded her arms. "Fine, be stubborn." Her eyes wandered away, skimming over the rest of the dark woods, as her companion got to his feet. "Why won't you tell me?"

Asazuki delicately plucked a leaf out of his hair. "Tell you what?"

"Where we're going. Why we're here. Why you're acting so weird."

Green eyes shot sideways. "I'm not acting weird."

There was a loud snort in response. "Kousuke, really. You walked into a tree. You may be an arrogant, selfish, self-centered klutz-"

"What does THAT have to do with anything?!"

"-but it's definitely not like you to lose focus like that." Ryoko reached up and picked a small twig out of the uneven red spikes that made up Asazuki's hair. "Something's going on, and you're going to tell me what it is."

He fidgeted. "It's a secret..."

"You? Keeping a secret?" She ruffled his hair, laughing. "You were never good at that, and you and I both know it." She paused. "It doesn't involve the Blade Children, does...it...?"

"Relax. It has nothing to do with that." He smiled in response to her actions. "I really just wanted to show you something."

"Show me so-" She gaped. "You've really lost it."

He frowned at her. "Now why do you say that?"

"Because you never act like this! If something's up, you tell me! Why the hell are you acting so secretive all of a sudden?"

"Just because; now come on!" Asazuki abruptly took hold of her hand, dragging her away from where they had stopped. Ryoko let out a shriek of protest as he pulled her along. "Nani yo, Kousuke-kun! Where are we-"

He glanced back at her. "Just come ON, will you?"

Her face shifted into a definite frown, one to match his own. "Asazuki Kousuke, if you dare take me somewhere to say something completely meaningless, in the middle of the night, when I could be sleeping-"

"It's not going to be meaningless!" He stopped walking suddenly. "At least I hope not..."

She blinked. "Kousuke-kun...?"

He seemed to snap out of whatever trance he had been in. "Come on. It's not much futher."

"Hai..." She followed him, keeping hold of his hand. Both were quiet now, moving slowly as they made their way through the wooded area. After a little while Ryoko spoke again, tightening her grip on Asazuki's hand. "We're going to the fountain, aren't we?"

"Aw, how did you know?" He laughed. The line of trees finally cleared out and they emerged from the wooded area, stepping out onto the pavement that surrounded the fountain. Ryoko had been here dozens of times, but never at midnight. The sight was literally breathtaking. The moonlight danced off of the water, reflecting white and a striking ice blue. The park lights glowed a brilliant white, immersing everything in their brilliance. The scenery was striking against the dark blue sky overhead- even the stars seemed more crisp and clear. Asazuki smiled as he glanced down at his companion, who stood open-mouthed, her hand still in his. "Nice, isn't it?"

She swallowed. "It's..." Her eyes trailed to what was set out in front of the the fountain. On top of a checkered blanket was a picnic basket, with two lit candles to either side. A blush crept up into Ryoko's cheeks. "K-Kousuke-kun...nande..."

"Do you like it?" He led her over to the blanket, still smiling. "I wanted to bring you here, to spend some time alone with you...we haven't had the chance in such a long time, ne?"

"Mm..." Her face broke into a slightly sly smile. "Planning to make a move on me tonight, Kousuke?"

This time he was the one who blushed. "What the hell are you talking about?!"

"Look, you're blushing!" She cheerily poked at his cheek. "How cute!"

"Blus- I am not!" He plopped down on the blanket, snorting loudly. "Sit down, will you? I made all this food for you, and while it may not be as good as Narumi-otouto's, I'm still a decent cook."

"You made food for me?" Ryoko sat down beside him, peeking into the basket as she did so. Her face promptly brightened when she saw what was inside. "Wow...so that's why you told me to eat a light dinner..."

Asazuki grinned. "I made your favorite."

"You made onigiri?" She blinked, then let out a shriek of delight. "You did! Kousuke, what's gotten into you? You're being...sweet."

"I already told you why I did this." He patted her hand as he removed food from the basket and set it out on the blanket. "Now eat. You could use a little more food...you're way too skinny."

"And you're certainly one to talk."

"Eh..."

"I'm kidding!" Ryoko retrieved the small basket of onigiri and placed it in front of her. "This is incredible. If I didn't know better, I'd think you WERE trying to make a move on me."

Asazuki choked on his sandwich. "R-right. Why would I do that? It's not like I brought you here to sweep you off your feet and make you fall madly in love with me, or something stupid like that..."

She stopped with an onigiri halfway to her mouth. "Asazuki..."

"I was kidding! Really!"

"Were you?"

"Of course! You don't even like me as a friend, so how could I possibly think you would... Er... What were we talking about before we brought this subject up?"

"Don't you dare." She set down her food and shifted to sit in front of him, staring directly into his catlike green eyes. "You DO have a crush on me, don't you?" That's why you brought me here, to-"

"Don't be so paranoid." He crossed his arms defensively. "I just thought it would be nice, to bring you here and spend some time with you. I have no ulterior motives."

"That's a shame, then." She sighed. "I was kind of hoping you did."

Asazuki choked on his sandwich again. "What the hell is wrong with you?!"

She leaned forward. "I'm right, aren't I?"

He swallowed, hard. "Right about what?"

Ryoko's expression twisted itself into a sly grin. "You want me to fall madly in love with you, don't you? You brought me here so you could seduce me!"

"That isn't exactly the word I'd use, but- DAMMIT RYOKO, I DID NOT-"

It was too late for protests. Ryoko closed the space between them, kissing Asazuki firmly on the lips. The redhead froze in place, not daring to make a single move. Silence surrounded them until Ryoko pulled away, her eyes locking with his. "It may not have been your intention, but it was mine."

Asazuki gasped for a breath. "Where did you learn to kiss like that?"

"I didn't exactly learn. I saved it for you." She was suddenly shy, the complete opposite of the forward, bold girl she had been only seconds ago. "Practiced on my pillow and everything..."

He snickered. "How girlish."

"Urusai!"

"I'll only stop if I get to kiss you again."

"See? I was right! You WERE planning on-"

"My plans just dissappeared. "He took her face in his hands and pressed his lips to hers, pushing her down onto her back on the blanket. She squeaked, carefully pushing him away, then reached up to wrap her arms around his neck. "Kousuke-kun..."

He smiled. "Why do I have a feeling we won't be touching the food?"

"Well, unless you have some chocolate syrup and cherries-"

His eyes went wide. "NANI?!"

"I'm kidding, Kousuke-kun no baka." She poked his nose, laughing. "Now do me a favor and hand me an onigiri? Because even with you on top of me, I don't plan on letting all that food go to waste."

"Ryoko..." He smiled. "You really are unique."

"Is that a bad thing?"

"Of course not." He reached back, took an onigiri, and held it so she could take a bite. "It just makes me like you more."

"I'm glad." Her eyes lit up as the clouds passed from in front of the moon, and at that moment, Asazuki Kousuke was more thankful for his onigiri-making skills than he ever had been before.
